Parade of Myths and Legends.

This parade is very popular in Rionegro, it is celebrated on October 31st each year. People go out to the downtown at night wearing colorful costumes, fancy clothing and funny wigs. If you are close to Rionegro, you can also enjoy this parade because it goes to where you are.The parade goes around Rionegro and people can see it from many places; the streets of the city are very crowded and many people come to see this parade from other nearby towns and cities, besides the parade illustrates the most popular myths and legends such as the crying woman, a mule with three legs, the headless priest, dracula and mother mountain. The big floats with the myths and legends decorate the parade with their colors, size and liveliness. Most of people in Rionegro love to see the big floats, especially the children who are accompanied by their parents during the entire the event. The small children go out to the downtown with their creative outfits and with their parents to collect candies in stores and restaurants which are decorated as terrifying places. After the tour, the parade arrives to downtown where several bands, local singers and entertainers continue the celebration with their music. At that time children should go home because sometimes this celebration extends late into night and it can be dangerous.

National Holiday of Empanada

La empanada is a type of pie, typical in Antioquia. It looks like a folded pancake. This pie has potatoes pieces, chunks of beef or pork and chopped onions and tomatoes inside. Sometimes la empanada can have cheese, corn and ham. All these ingredients are covered by a layer of dough made of corn, because of the color of the corn, la empanada is usually yellow but in the National Holiday of la empanada, many cookers prepare empanadas in several colors like red, blue, violet and green. Colorful empanadas are only seen in Rionegro in this festival. It takes place in the beginning of August every year in San Antonio de Pereira, which is a village of Rionegro. This celebration is very popular in Antioquia. San Antonio is home to hundreds of people who want to taste these delicious and recognized pies, also they can enjoy not only the taste of these empanadas but also activities which take place during the week of the festival, such as listening to several bands, seeing crafts, meeting people from other places of Antioquia, sharing with family, and having a great time in this very cozy place.

 

International Air Show

The International Airport José María Córdova in Rionegro is home for many people who arrive to see the air show there. The spectacle is one of the most famous in Colombia and around the world because it offers an unforgettable, original and funny performance for people of all ages. The air show consists of pirouettes and majestic movements made by 100 pilots from around the world at the international airport in Rio Negro. In addition to the airshow; The civil aviation (the organizers) allows all people attending the show have the opportunity to see in detail way, the different types of aircrafts on the ground. People take the opportunity to take photos of all airplanes with their pilots. In the show, there are many international aircrafts and pilots which were invited to show the public the diversity of styles, sizes and features they have. Some invited countries include Canada, Israel, Germany, Czech Republic, Argentina, Peru, United States, Venezuela, France, Spain, Russia, UK, Brazil among others.Due to the difficult and detailed organization that requires this event; only it takes place every two years in July where climatic conditions are perfect. Around 60,000 spectators revel in almost 30 different shows performed during the whole event.
